Scotland, Nov 2: The to the UN Convention on Climate Change (COP26) is an annual UN climate conference. This year is the 26th annual summit, attended by representatives of over 200 countries who are ‘party’ to the Convention. More than 100 world leaders promised to end and reverse deforestation by 2030, in the COP26 climate summit’s first major deal on Tuesday. The pledge includes almost £14bn ($19.2bn) of public and private funds.
US President Joe Biden, along with the European Union leaders, also committed to cut methane emissions by 30% by 2030. Methane, the main component of natural gas, has 80 times more global warming effects than Carbon Dioxide.
The US, UK, France, and European Union also pledged to fund South Africa to transition away from excess coal usage and decarbonize (reducing global pollution). They plan to boost green technology as much as possible. This summit is a leaders’ event accelerating clean technology and innovation.
