Meta, known as Facebook until October 2021, has launched a new artificial intelligence tool. The project is called Animated Drawings.
It turns drawings into animated figures using artificial intelligence (AI).
Meta released Animated Drawings on April 14, 2023.
How to use the tool
Users can upload their drawing onto Animated Drawings. They are given the option to grant permission to Meta to use their drawings for training and research. However, it is not necessary to give consent to use the project. i.e., the user can use the tool but not let Meta use their data for research.
After uploading the drawing, users can resize a capture box to fit well around the drawing.
It also allows users to modify any highlights and joint adjustments.
After these modifications are completed, the project creates an animated figure of the given drawing. Meta has provided pre-set motions for users to choose from. The motions have four categories,- dance, funny, jumping and walking.
The project’s popularity led to requests for additional tools, such as sound effects and text overlays.
Meta then decided to release the project as an open-source tool, which means it is publicly accessible. The project currently comprises approximately 180,000 drawings.
A web-based version of this tool that needed users to upload a single drawing or choose a demo figure was originally released by the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team in 2021. FAIR was officially created by Meta AI in September, 2013.
