The Civil Services Preliminary exam is the first step of a long selection process that is used to select administrative officers of India.
20 of the people who were to appear for the preliminary exam this year filed a petition (application) in the Supreme Court, saying that this year’s exam should be postponed or clubbed with 2021 exam, given the state of public health all over the world.
UPSC, the body that conducts this exam, was asked for its opinion.
UPSC said that safety measures have been taken and over 6 lakh applicants have prepared for months to take this examination.
After hearing both sides, the Supreme Court has rejected the petition and the exam will now happen on October 4th, as originally scheduled.
