Last week, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, experienced unexpected heavy rain. Many streets and subways were flooded. Schools declared holiday on Friday 11th November and Saturday 12th November.
This month has recorded the highest amount of rain recieved by Chennai in 30 years. A few parts of Tamil Nadu received red warnings. A few districts like Tiruvallur, Madurai, Sivaganga, and Kancheepuram kept schools and colleges shut. Several areas were waterlogged.
The Chief minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, inspected the water-logged areas.
Work to clear waterlogged streets was carried out using pumps. Lorries were employed to shift the water from waterlogged streets to ones with less to no water. The reason for waterlogging is essentially the flooding of drains which then overflows filling the place with water. The water from drains is also being transferred from one drain to another.
