The Canadian Open is a badminton tournament that takes place every year at the Markin MacPhail Centre, Calgary (Canada). It is one of the tournaments in the BWF World Tour Super 500 series, a type of tournament conducted by BWF. This is the 58th edition of the Canadian Open.
This year, Lakshya Sen from India finished at the top position after defeating China’s Li Shi Feng, the current All England champion. Sen defeated him in straight sets of 21-18 and 22-20. This is Sen’s second BWF win after he won the Indian Open 2022.
Akane Yamaguchi of Japan clinched the women’s singles title after beating Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand.
The winners of the men’s doubles title were Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen from Denmark, who beat Fredrik Sogaard and Rasmus Kjaer – also from Denmark.
Shuttlers Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu beat Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara who were Japanese too! Interesting, right?
In the mixed doubles, Hiroki Midorikavoa and Natsu Saito from Japan bagged the gold medal after their win against Danish shuttlers Mathias Thyrri and Amalie Magelund.
