Prime minister Justin Trudeau wins third term in office
Ottawa, Sep 21: Canada’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau, won the ongoing elections, making it his third term as prime minister. His Liberal Party, however, failed to win a majority vote. This means that he will remain in power but will have to take support from the Conservative Party.
Liberals were leading in 158 seats, short of the 170 needed for a majority. Erin O’Toole’s opposition Conservatives had 122. The remaining seats in the next Parliament will be held by the left-leaning New Democratic Party (29), and the Quebec-based separatist party Bloc Quebecois (28).
“You are sending us back to work with a clear mandate to get Canada through this pandemic into the brighter days ahead,” Mr. Trudeau said. “My friends, that’s exactly what we are ready to do.” “What we`ve seen tonight is that millions of Canadians have chosen a progressive plan.”
