AA Milne is the creator of Winnie the Pooh and the author of the entire Winnie the Pooh series.
Christopher Robin is generally understood to be based on his son.
One can safely assume that this book, too, was written for his son.
The illustrations are by E H Shepard, and one can’t quite make out whether the poems are better than the pictures, or the other way around. They complement each other perfectly.
This book of poetry should be read to children, instead of Mother Goose rhymes. It is perrrrrrfect!
Most poems make you smile, and many are positively giggle worthy. If nostalgia is one of your things, you will find yourself walking in the garden of your childhood, remembering the times when these were real dreams to you – taking your boat and reaching an uninhabited island, climbing to its very top and imagining that the world was made for you!
If you don’t believe me, here’s proof:
Where am I going? I don’t quite know.
Down to the stream where the king-cups grow –
Up to the hill where the pine-trees blow –
Anywhere, anywhere. I don’t know.
The book is ideal for infants, toddlers, and young children, and their respective parents.
