Review by Ishaan Kaila
The Strange Thermometer is an amazing book.
The book is about history of medicine – like vaccines, etc. The beginning was about a girl, Ira, who comes to her dada’s house. Her dada practices medicine, and coincidentally, she also
aspires to be a doctor.
They exchange stories over everyday activities like playing caroms, sitting in the backyard,
sipping chai, etc.
I loved the stories, though the situations could have been better formed, as I could tell that
these were contrived and not real. It was a good book, but not one of the best that I’ve read.
Any child can relate to the book, but the ones who will relate to this the most, are doctors and
aspiring doctors. I would rate this as being suitable for children 10 and above, as some of the parts in the story may scare younger readers and some of the terms are unknown to me.
I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
