Review by Ananya Singh
Reading mystery novels is a passion for many, and so authors have come up with varied styles over the years to create new identities. And now, with a massive boost in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector, we see many books on AI as well, its benefits and harms. However, combining both in a real life aspect, with in depth research is a feat accomplished only by Ms. Nidhi Arora.
Written with extreme passion and detail, Probe8 features a glimpse into the use of AI as a benefit to society, as well as the alternative. The collection of short stories presents the view that while AI is certainly a boon in numerous sectors, inclusive of law and order, it can also be used to disrupt, hoodwink and sideline the same human forces. Just like with two sides of a coin, the misuse of AI is possible while we focus only on the improvements in the current light of events.
The effort put by the author in referencing reality is clearly shown, not only in the increased probability of the plots, but also in the emotions and characteristics of the well-evolved characters. One of the major difficulties in writing a selection of short stories is ensuring accurate development of the characters in each plot line, just enough to make the reader connect but not bore them. This balance is maintained beautifully by Ms. Nidhi in Probe8 and is appreciable.
All in all, the book shows a glimpse into the future, of how AI can (and has) been used in various circumstances for good, bad, and the ugly. I recommend all readers above the age of 13 to definitely give this book a chance at least once to understand the uses of AI in depth and easy-to-understand ways.
