Book by Linthoi Chanu, Review by the TCP Team
The title makes it clear that the book is about losing one’s tooth.
What do other cultures do with the teeth that the kids lose? The Tooth Fairy has become such a universal story of teeth that we don’t wonder about the cultures that did not have Tooth Fairy. This book made me want to ask my grandmother about our tooth traditions too (we put it in cotton, by the way).
The book is ideal for 6-year-olds and should serve as a read along and read by yourself kind of book.
One should also thank Niyogi Books for bringing a Manipuri story to us. Most mainstream publishers do not focus as much on traditional Indian stories. This one is, therefore, a delight to read.
The book has gloss finish pages, making it ideal for young readers.
My only suggestion is that the pronunciations of the names can be added as a footnote on the same page, so that we understand how these lovely names are pronounced. The second suggestion is to tell us the meanings of these names.
