Imagine a farmer from Kerala eager to learn about suitable seeds for a particular season but limited by his knowledge of only Malayalam. Or envision a young girl from a Telugu-speaking village aspiring to learn coding but lacking access to resources, with Tamil as her only language of understanding. These scenarios might seem hard to imagine but they are today’s reality . The latest Generative AI interface, “Hanooman,” set to be launched by Reliance in collaboration with eight major IITs, promises to bridge these gaps and empower individuals like never before.
About Hanooman
Hanooman has been developed jointly by the Reliance Jio Infocomm Centre and the 8 IITs in India. Hanooman will be largely on the lines of ChatGPT, the generative AI (artificial intelligence) platform that has already taken the world by storm. Some of its features are:
Multilingual compatibility: Hanooman is a series of large language models, LLM (a language model created to understand various dialects or languages in an efficient way) that can respond in 11 Indian languages. It further aims to extend its ability to 22 languages.
Functionality: The model features multimodal AI abilities, allowing it to create content in various formats, including text-to-text, text-to-speech, text-to-video, and vice versa. This model has been designed to work in four fields: health care, education, finance, and governance.
Scale: The size of these AI models ranges from 1.5 billion to an impressive 40 billion parameters.
Why is it named ‘Hanooman’?
Hanooman stands as an iconic figure in India, renowned as the most devout follower of Lord Rama. Beyond his devotion, Hanooman symbolizes extraordinary feats, notably his legendary leap from the tip of India to Ceylon and his remarkable feat of lifting the Sanjeevani mountain to revive Lakshman. Essentially, Hanooman embodies the concept of achieving the impossible.
What’s the primary focus of Hanooman?
The primary focus of Hanooman will be on specific areas to ensure practicality and effectiveness. Initially, it will concentrate on serving users in 11 local languages, enabling them to ask questions and receive answers in their native language. The platform will prioritize key sectors such as healthcare, government services, finance, and education. As it evolves, the platform will develop tailored AI models for India and offer AI-driven solutions addressing the needs of the diverse Indian population across various essential services.
With Hanooman, anyone from anywhere in India will be able to resolve their query in their very own language!
