Badminton: Indonesian Open 2023

Jakarta, Indonesia :  The KAPAL API GROUP Indonesian Open is an annual badminton tournament. Started in the year 1982, the championship was included in the BWF Super Series Tournament (2nd Grade Tournament as per Badminton World Federation) in 2007. It received the Super Series Premier status in the year 2011.

The Men’s singles title was won by Victor Axelson from Denmark. He defeated Weng Hongyang(China).

Y. F. Chen from China bagged the top position in the women’s singles category after defeating Carolina Marin from Spain.

Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy scripted history by winning India’s first BWF Super 1000 title (a level of tournament in BWF like BWF Super 500, Super 300, etc). They are also the first pair from India to win a doubles title at the Indonesian Open. They defeated Malaysian players, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. Their international ranking now, in men’s doubles, is 3rd.

South Korean shuttlers S. H. Lee and H. N. Baek clinched the first spot after defeating S. Hirota and Y. Fukushima from Japan in the women’s doubles category.

The mixed doubles was won by Y. Q. Huang and S. W. Zheng of China. They defeated Japanese shuttlers Huawei, Y. Watanabe and A. Higashino.
