Assam’s Manohari Tea sets world record – Sells at ₹ 99,999 per kg

The Manohari Gold Tea is produced by the Manohari Tea Estate in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

At an open auction held on Tuesday (December 14th) at the Guwahati Tea Auction Center, Saurav Tea Traders bought this tea with the highest bid of ₹ 99,999 per kg.

1241 tea gardens and 244 buyers are registered under the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre.

The previous records for high priced teas at the Guwahati auctions are:

August 2019 – Golden Butterfly Tea of Dikom Tea Estate – 75,000 ₹ per kg – Bought by M/s Assam Tea Traders, one of the oldest tea shops in Guwahati.

August 2019 – Golden Tips tea of Maijan Tea Garden – 70,501 ₹ per kg – Bought by Mundhra Tea Company Private Limited (Guwahati)

July, 2019 – Manohari Gold Tea of Manohari Tea Estate – 50,000 ₹ per kg – Bought by Saurabh Tea Traders (Guwahati). In 2018 also, the record for the most expensive tea had gone to Manohari tea, at 39,100 ₹ per kg.
