High-speed performance test for vehicles
Report by Alka Singh
Delhi, Jul 1: India now houses Asia’s longest and the world’s fifth-longest High-Speed Track (HST) for automobiles.
The National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) is located in Pithampur near Indore, Madhya Pradesh. It has multiple test capabilities like measuring maximum speed, acceleration, constant speed, and fuel consumption; and can also perform emission tests through real road driving simulation. The track is located in an area of 1,000 acres of land and measures 11.3 km in length.
This track is a one-stop solution for all sorts of high- speed performance tests for all types of vehicles from two-wheelers to heavy tractor trailers. A vehicle can achieve a maximum speed of 375 kmph on curves with steering control. It has less banking on ovals, which also making it also one of the safest test tracks globally.
The high-speed track will be used in measuring maximum speed capabilities of high-speed cars such as BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Lamborghini. This facility will help in improving the automobile manufacturing units in India.
