The state of Kerala has created Asia’s first “Bird Atlas”, mapping the bird species found in each and every corner of the state, across seasons. It is a citizen-science initiative that spanned over five years (2016-2020). A team of 1,000 birdwatchers did the field survey in around 4,000 locations during both dry (January-March) and wet (July-September) seasons.
The bird count was recorded from various locations using the eBird app. The survey is complete now and all information has been compiled and made available at The Bird Count India website.
sn,kThe atlas has details of distribution of 150 species of birds. It will help in the study of various birds and conserving them. This is the largest co-ordinated and systematic bird survey in India.
