Asian Wrestling Championship, 2023

The Asian wrestling championship is held annually. This year they were held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 9th April 2023 to 14th April 2023. India won 13 medals in all. They are as follows.

Day 1 (9th April 2023):

1. Rupin won the silver medal in the 55 kg Greco Roman style.
2. Neeraj from Sonipat bagged the bronze medal in the 63 kg Greco Roman category.
3. Sunil Kumar brought the bronze medal for India in the 87 kg Greco Roman category after defeating Masato Sumi from Japan.

Day 2 (10th April 2023):

1. Vikas defeated China’s Jain Tan to win another bronze for India in the 72 kg Greco Roman style.

Day 3 (11th April 2023):

1. Nisha Dahiya bagged the silver medal in the 68 kg category after she lost to Japan’s Ami Ishii.
2. Priya got the bronze medal in the 76 kg category after defeating Japan’s Mizuki Nagashima in the bronze medal fight.

Day 4 (12th April 2023):

1. Olympic wrestler Anshu Malik defeated Mongolian wrestler Erdenesuvd Bat Erdene to win the bronze medal with technical superiority (a condition where the wrestler wins over its opponent by a specific number of points).
2. Olympic wrestler Antim Panghal lost to Japanese Akari Fujinami in the 53 kg category. She lost due to technical superiority.
3. Sonam Malik defeated China’s Xiaojuan in the fight for the bronze medal in the 62 kg category.
4. Reetika (72 kg) got down Uzbekistani wrestler Svetlana Oknazarova to win the bronze medal.
5. Manisha clinched the bronze medal in the 65 kg category by defeating Kazakhstan’s Albina Kairgeldinova.

Day 5 (13th April 2023):

1. Aman Sehrawat claimed the gold medal for India after he defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Almas Smanbekov (57 kg).  This was his first appearance at the championship. He is also an Under-23 World Champion.
2. Deepak Kumar (79 kg) got the bronze medal, home, after defeating Tajikistan’s Shuhrat Bozorov by technical superiority.
