All India Radio has completely shifted to using Electric Vehicles in an effort to go green and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
It has put into service a fleet of 26 Electric Vehicles at the Akashvani Bhawan, All India Radio in New Delhi.
Shashi Shekhar Vempati, CEO of Prasar Bharati, and N Venudhar Reddy, Director General of All India Radio, launched the service on December 2, 2021.
With this move, All India Radio has switched to electric vehicles for all of its transportation
needs and it will only use electric vehicles for all its official purposes.
Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), which is a joint venture of public sector companies under the Ministry of Power, has entered into a wet lease agreement with AIR for the next five years to provide the electric vehicles. A lease in simple terms means renting for a specific period of time against a payment.
In a wet lease the vehicle is leased along with an operator and the maintenance and insurance of the vehicle are included. Whereas in a dry lease the vehicle alone is included.
Electric vehicles will be introduced at other All India Radio stations based on their performance at Akashvani Bhawan.
