All-India Consumer Price Index for Agricultural and Rural Labourers

The details of the All India Consumer Price Index for Agricultural and Rural Labourers for March ‘23 has been released. We can abbreviate it to CPI-AL and RL.  Here is all you need to know about it:

CPI-AL

·       It has increased to 1175 points (+4 points as compared to the month of Feb ‘23)

·       Main reason for increase- increase in the prices of rice, jowar, ragi, pulses, milk, meat, fish, green chillies, garlic, spices, fruits and vegetables, readymade tea etc. It contributed +1.67 points to the CPI

·       18 states have recorded an increase of 1 to 9 points, while 2 states have recorded a decrease of 2 to 4 points

·       Highest: Tamil Nadu (1360 points)

·       Lowest: Himachal Pradesh (917 points)

·       Maximum increase recorded by West Bengal (9 points) due to increase in the prices of wheat (atta), bajra, barley, mustard oil, onion etc.

·       Maximum decrease recorded by Uttar Pradesh (4 points) due to decrease in the prices of wheat (atta), bajra, barley, mustard oil, onion etc.

CPI-RL

·       Increased to 1186 points (+4 points as compared to the month of Feb ‘23)

·       Main reason for increase- increase in the prices of rice, jowar, ragi, pulses, milk, meat, fish, green chillies, garlic, spices, fruits and vegetables, readymade tea etc. It contributed +1.97 points to the CPI.

·       18 states have recorded an increase of 1 to 9 points, while 2 states have recorded a decrease of 2 to 3 points

·       Highest: Tamil Nadu (1350 points)

·       Lowest: Himachal Pradesh (968 points)

·       Maximum increase recorded by West Bengal (9 points) due to increase in the prices of wheat (atta), bajra, barley, mustard oil, onion etc.

·       Maximum decrease recorded by Uttar Pradesh (4 points) due to decrease in the prices of wheat (atta), bajra, barley, mustard oil, onion etc.

The inflation rate based on CPI-AL and CPI-RL was 7.01% and 6.94% for March, 2023 as compared to 6.94% and  6.87% in February’23. An year back in March ’22, it stood at 6.09% and 6.33% respectively.

Food inflation based on the two indexes in March ’23 was 7.12% and 7.07%, 6.82% and 6.68% in February ’23, while it an year back in March ’22 it was 4.91% and 4.88% respectively 

The CPI-AL and RL for April will be released on 19th May 2023.
