Founded in the year 1952, the International Film Festival of India has been held annually to celebrate the greatness of film industries all over the world.
Many movies are screened and awards are presented to deserving actors during the festival.
The festival is usually held over a span of 1 to 2 weeks and is a platform for those who love watching movies, films, and cinemas.
What are the features of this year’s festival?
This year the festival will be held from 20th to 28th November. The opening ceremony started at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Panaji, Goa.
The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, the union minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth affairs & Sports and the Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant.
Film personalities Ranveer Singh, Ritesh Deshmukh, Genelia Deshmukh, and Shraddha Kapoor were also present at the ceremony.
For the first time, OTT platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Voot, Zee5, and Sony Liv will also
participate at IFFI through exclusive masterclasses, content launches and previews, curated film
package screenings, and various other on-ground and virtual events.
What are the awards being given at the festival?
Film awards are being given out at the festival. Some awards received until now are:
▪ Indian actress and politician Hema Malini and Indian lyricist and marketer Prasoon Joshi both
received the Indian Film Personality of the year award.
▪ The Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award is to be given to American film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor Martin Charles Scorsese, and Hungarian film director István Szabó.
▪ The Golden Peacock Award for films which honour corporate excellence and Silver Peacock
Award for best director are yet to be announced. These awards were given out to the Danish
film In the Dark (Golden Peacock) and Taiwanese director Chen-Nien Ko for her drama film the
Silent Forest (Silver Peacock).
