Delhi, Jan 31: The Indian Coast Guard celebrates its 45th Raising Day on February 1st , 2021. The Indian Coast Guard started with just 7 surface platforms in 1978. Today, the force has 156 ships and 62 aircraft. The Indian Coast Guard is the primary defence force of India’s long coastline – about 7,500 kms.
The Indian Coast Guard also:
• Provides help to Indian fishermen.
• Conducts rescue operations at the time of natural calamities.
• Collects scientific data using its vessels in the sea. Also checks smuggling into India through the sea route (smuggling: when someone brings things or people into a country without the right permissions).
