New Delhi, Nov 14: The Central Government has declared 15th November as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas and announced weeklong celebrations starting from 15th to 22nd November 2021. This week will be dedicated to the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters and the sacrifices they have made for our country. Several Indian tribal communities like Santhals, Tamars, Kols, Bhils, Khasis, Mizos among others had strengthened India’s freedom struggle. However, the general public is not very aware about these tribal heroes. The Government of India has sanctioned 10 tribal freedom fighter museums across the country to improve awareness and honour the struggles of these heroes.
November 15th marks the birth anniversary of Sri Birsa Munda who was an Indian tribal freedom fighter, religious leader belonging to the Munda tribe. His portrait hangs in the Indian Parliament Museum and is the only tribal leader to have been so honored.
It also marks the anniversary of Jharkhand Foundation Day (Jharkhand was established on 15th November 2000 by the Bihar Reorganization Act as the 28th state of India).
Numerous activities have been planned as part of the celebrations. The theme behind each activity will be to showcase the achievements of tribals in India’s freedom struggle and display the unique tribalcultural heritage, their contributions in traditions, cuisines, health, education, and livelihood.
